The following was unceremoniously ripped from the RESET blog. Make sure to check out this week’s comic!
So I’ve played through most of Retro Game Challenge by this point, and it’s managed to consistently entertain and delight. While some of the novelty of playing games within a game wore off towards the end, the games themselves were unique enough to keep things interesting. They were all so carefully designed to perfectly mimic the style of 8-bit games that they could have easily been passed off as long-lost NES titles. I don’t imagine that I’ll spend too much time trying to get a perfect run in Star Prince or some ridiculous score in Robot Ninja Haggle Man once I’ve finished all the challenges, but what I probably will do is bust out the FC Twin again and fire up some of my real NES games. Ever since I received that system a few years back I’ve been accumulating a steady stream of titles, and by this point I’ve got quite a stack of little, gray cartridges just sitting in the corner waiting for their time in the sun. I’ve actually been jonesing to play some NES games for a while, but these days gaming is primarily reserved for the hour or two before bed when, thoroughly exhausted from work and graduate assignments, I’m just looking for something relaxing to mess around with before I pass out. As much as I love them, old NES games are not even remotely relaxing. Well, unless your idea of relaxing is something filled with harrowing jumps and swarms of enemies that has to be beaten in one sitting. I probably will be taking a bit of a low-key summer vacation in a couple of months, so maybe that’ll be the time to finally dig into some of these bad boys. Heck, I could invite some friends over, we could all sit around on the floor, and we could stage our own Retro Game Challenge reenactment. That would be pretty sweet. Then again, maybe I’ll just sleep in a lot. That would be pretty sweet too.
