Non-Bungie Halo 4 to launch the next Xbox?
Don’t worry, you can let it out. This is definitely cause for a major “WTF?” moment.

According to the cool folks at 1up.com, via Official Xbox Magazine, rumors are circulating that Gearbox, the developers behind the Brothers in Arms series, are going to be responsible to taking Master Chief, Cortana, and the rest of the Halo universe into the NEXT next generation.
Now, this one’s only 3 years old (for MS - Nintendo and Sony didn’t join in til the end of 06), but it really shouldn’t come as that big a surprise that talks are going on regarding the next generation of systems. What IS surprising is that it’s come out to the public, especially when it’s going to be several years at least before we see any glimpses of this future. And we all know Sony likes to pump their idea of a 10 year platform lifespan, which puts the PS4 at roughly 2016 (give or take a few years, since the PS2 hasn’t quite turned 10 yet).
That brings up several questions. What sort of interface will the next gen have? Are we ready to start talking about systems that are 5 to 10 years away when there’s still so much potential on today’s units? Is it possible to wait that long without playing a new Halo title?
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
(apologies to Bungie for butchering the pic.)
