Chainsaw action coming to the Wii

No, I’m not talking about that boring third-person shooter from Microsoft. That’s still a 360/PC exclusive. I’m referring to Sega’s MadWorld, a cautionary tale about the havoc and mayhem that one man can bestow upon the world when he’s given a chainsaw in place of a missing arm. Covered in a recent cover story in Nintendo Power, the game, set to release in early 2009, focuses on Jack, a man “forced to participate in a lethal game show known as Death Watch, where the objective is to score points by dispatching your enemies in the most entertaining way possible.” Don’t know about you, but I’m sold.

MadWorld seems to be aiming for that cultish adult following that tells the general public that they don’t own a Wii, but really hordes copies of House of the Dead and No More Heroes to get a satisfying, blood-filled fix of gaming action. It’s a very hard-M-for-Mature, with lots of limb loss and plenty of blood. The graphical style will remind some of Sin City (hmm, maybe Rodriguez and Tarantino do have an influence on the Wii, as noted in yesterday’s blog on the new House of the Dead), with the basic black and white characters and backgrounds being highlighted by very deep red blood whenever someone gets hacked or slashed. It’s definitely got some promise, and I’m just hoping it sells better than No More Heroes did - that was a great game that went terribly overlooked and hung out on store shelves for way too long, even after the price dropped to $29.99.
