“Limited” game releases from Nintendo at E3
Reggie Fils-Aime said that there are too many titles coming to Nintendo’s consoles to focus on all of them at this press conference, so instead the company would focus on just a few titles with more than just minor snippets.
For the Wii, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party, and Call of Duty: World at War were shown. In order, they look awesome, cutesy, and impressive. While COD may not have the graphical prowess on Wii that it will display on the 360 or PS3, it did have some impressive visuals and effects when compared to other games on the console. Also, two-player co-op and Wii Zapper functionality were shown off in the video.
For the DS, a new Guitar Hero will be coming by the end of this year, as well as a new Pokemon Ranger to be released on November 10, and the Spore Creature game, which is the only version of the title outside of PC/Mac platforms. It was also revealed that testing is in progress for new DS functionality with airports around the country to allow for things like weather forecasts and hotel and restaurant locations in a new city. It’s not for everyone, but it sounds like a cool concept. The DS is already being used to help fans at Safeco Field in Seattle check out of town box scores and highlights.
Before moving on, one other big DS announcement was made, however - Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars is coming to the portable. It will include the traditional free-roaming gameplay, and will be available sometime this holiday.
Focusing on the new Wii Motion Plus attachment, which we talked about yesterday, Reggie revealed Wii Sports Resort, which includes a couple of games that will take advantage of the “one-to-one” motion control for better and quicker interactions with the game. The game will release in the spring of 2009.
