RESET blog

July 13, 2009

Many of you may have suspected something was up when there wasn't a blog last week, and as you've likely guessed from the above comic, this week marks the end of RESET's two-and-a-half year journey. This may seem to have come somewhat out of the blue, falling right at the beginning of a new storyline as it does, but in reality it's something I've been thinking about for a few months. There are really several reasons for this, not the least being that RESET never really seemed to have caught on as well as we'd hoped it would. While it's clear from the statistics that RESET does have a handful of loyal readers, that number hasn't really increased much since the strip began. I never really expected RESET to be a titanic hit on the scale of Penny Arcade or PvP, but the amount of work we were both putting into the strip was tough to reconcile with the fact that it never really pulled in a substantive number of new readers or developed any kind of a community. I'm fine with toiling away for a small but dedicated audience, but toiling away in what was essentially a vacuum just started to seem silly after a while.

The other, and in reality probably more weighty, factor is that in the wake of some personal problems that have recently reared their heads I just don't have the energy to put into the strip anymore. Don't worry, I didn't lose my job or get cancer or anything dramatic like that. Some issues simply came up that need to be dealt with. I had originally planned on continuing the strip at least until the end of the current story arc, but the more I weighed how taxing that would be for me in my current situation against the likely payoff, the less it seemed worthwhile. Don't worry too much about me, though. I'm not completely throwing in the towel creatively, I just need a few months to get some things in order and recharge my creative battery. I'm sure somewhere down the line I'll be writing more articles or doing another webcomic or something like that.

So this is it, then. I would like to thank our loyal readers for stopping by each week to check out what was going on with Zac and the gang. I hope you've had as much fun reading the strip as we've had creating it. I'd also like to thank Max and GameLemon for hosting this craziness for several years. It would have been awfully tricky to have had a webcomic without a website. And of course I have to extend a very special thank you to my father. As I've said in the past, he's the one that put in the lion's share of the work on most of these strips, and without him there likely wouldn't have been any RESET, much less over one hundred professionally drawn, inked, and colored strips. I just hope he knows how much I've enjoyed working with him over the last two-and-a-half years.

See you around, folks.

May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce, or whatever else it is you seek on your path to glory. Farewell, dude.

I am officially NOT taking this as a last goodbye.  No matter when you decide to come back, GameLemon is here for you.  In the meantime, I'd like to say a big "thank you" to you and your dad both for honoring GameLemon with your work these past several years. It's truly been a pleasure, and I only wish I could have done more to support the wonderful work you did here, both for RESET and for the overall site in general.
